Texas jury indicts woman in Columbia County jail

A federal grand jury in Waco, Texas, returned an indictment Tuesday, charging a Texas baby sitter with kidnapping, according to KWTX in Texas.

The kidnapped 2-year-old was returned to her mother after a deputy in Columbia County spotted Courtney Hernandez’s vehicle on Sunday on Interstate 20 near Grovetown, Columbia County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

Authorities had been searching for the vehicle and missing girl, Addison Fowler, of Teague, Texas, since July 2, Morris said.

The indictment alleges Hernandez, 34, kidnapped the toddler and then drove her from Texas to Georgia.

The girl’s mother, a solider, had asked Hernandez, 34, to watch her daughter until July 2 while she prepared to deploy, but attempts to get her daughter back were unsuccessful, police said.

Hernandez remained in federal custody in Georgia Tuesday, awaiting a transfer to Texas.
