Electric Greetings
This holiday season send a greeting card on the World Wide Web. You can
send a card to anyone that has an e-mail address from StarNet Holiday Cards. It's faster and
easier than snail mail and there are no stamps to lick. How does it work?
People receive an e-mail message telling them there is a greeting card
waiting for them and giving them the URL of the Web site and a secret
code. When they go to the Web site and enter the secret code, they can see
the card that you have created for them. Plus, you can send as many cards
as you want for free. Happy Holidays!
A Hero Is More
Than just a Sandwich
What do author Mark Twain, civil rights activist Rosa Parks, and baseball
legend Babe Ruth have in common? They all can be found on the My Hero home
page. So, what are the ingredients that make up a
hero? (The people, not the sandwich!) Read why one person says ''West Side
Story'' lyricist Stephen Sondheim is her hero and someone else chose the
student protesters at China's Tiananmen Square. Can a hero be anyone? What
about Tuscie, a dog from Chicago who saved his owner from an apartment
fire? Who is your hero? Go ahead, show some courage and sign the My Hero
Guest Book to tell the world about your hero.
Athletes in Snow
The arrival of ''Old Man Winter'' means one thing for many kids: It's time
to play! Whether it's snow boarding, freestyle skiing, or bobsledding, snow
sports combine thrills and spills to make winter a favorite season for the
outdoors crowd. At the Winter Sports Page, you can check out all of your
favorite snow and ice sports, such as luge, hockey and figure skating! Try
to keep up with a pack of cross-country skiers, meet some rad snow
boarders, or find out about a winter sporting event that's close to your
hometown. You can even skate through a winter sports photo gallery to get a
closer look at all the action. Did you remember your mittens and hot cocoa?

Dear Amy:Every year my family helps another family for Christmas. This
year I'm sick so I have to stay at home. Are there some pen pals I can
write to? -- Andrea, Northampton, MA
Dear Andrea:There is a Web site called Care Quest designed just for
kids to send some cheer to other kids who are sick or injured in hospitals
all around the world. Kids can also send messages to elderly people. It's a
great way let other people know that you care about them.
Dear Amy:: I'am going to buy my kids a computer for Christmas. What do I
need to do to get connected to the Internet? -- Mark, Boulder, CO
Dear Mark:When my dad brought home our first computer, he needed some
help, too. The easiest place to start is at the store where you buy the
computer. There are packages or kits that have all the software you need to
get connected. But someone who is already connected (like a school
technology club) can help you find very good software you can download from
the Internet for free. Ask at the store or use the Yellow Pages to find an
Internet service provider in your town. The provider will help you set up
your modem to make the actual connection to the World Wide Web.
