Cody's Birdcage

Cody is a budgie (parakeet) who was once held captive at a pet store, until her new owner Hillary rescued her and gave her a good home. Now Cody's having a party inside her new birdcage, and you're invited! At Cody's birdcage, you'll find everything you need to know about budgies, from her own bird's life diary to a link to Budgie Land. If you hang out at the birdcage long enough, you might just run into some of Cody's friends, including dogs, salamanders and Bud the froggy. Just keep an eye out for Lydia the cat! It's time to make some new feathered friends. Fly out to Cody's Birdcage.

QUICK, CLICK, REACT!

Check in at REACT, and react to the webzine for teens. Interesting factoids such as: It takes 1 pound of grain to make 1 pound of bread, and 20 pounds of grain to make 1 pound of beef. That is the kind of info that will make your friends hungry for more. OK, exercise your funny bone with a new joke every day on "give a joke, get a joke" or go on a scavenger hunt. Or ask anything and have a discussion on your 2 cents (it's better than a penny for your thoughts). There's more. The latest news on films, vids, music, TV and sports-all at this fun place for teens.

The Heart: An Online Exploration

OK, you've been on tours of castles, caves and historic monuments, but have you ever toured the human heart? And since the heart provides the power needed for life, this is a tour you don't want to miss! Wander through the weblike body systems, float down a bloodstream, or monitor your own heart. With additional resource information and cool graphics, this is a site sure to get your heart pumping.

When you know the answers to these questions, go to 4Kids Detective!. Here are the questions:

  • Which city does the webzine React originate from?
  • Cody has how many perches?
  • If you could see the heart, what fruit would it be shaped like?

Dear Amy:What does http://www. mean? It's always at the beginning of a URL.-Jamie, Minneapolis

Dear Jamie:As you know, a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the Internet address of a Web site. The http at the beginning of the address tells your computer to speak a special language, called HyperText Transfer Protocol, which is just for the World Wide Web. The :// (colon, slash, slash) separates the protocol from the rest of the address. The www isn't required. It is just a common name that Webmasters use to identify their World Wide Web site on the Internet.

Dear Amy:: Why don't you tell kids where to get their own homepages? There are many places that allow free pages and the kids don't have to know HTML -Nick, Lexington, KY

Dear Nick: Great idea! I get a lot of questions about learning HTML, but there are Web sites to go to if you just want to try making your own home page. It's easy. Little kids will like the one Lego, but I like WebBuilder. You can load your own pictures and words, check out your page and then make changes or add more stuff later. It's designed for schools, so make it a class project. Teachers can do it, too. But if you want to learn HTML, go to Small Planet's Create Your Own Web Page.
