Lorraine furthered her education receiving a B.S. and M.S. of Education from Fort Valley State University. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church where she was an active member of the J .H. West Choir, and served on several committees until her health failed. Lorraine had the reputation of being an excellent middle grade educator. She taught for 29 years in four locations in Georgia: Appling, Taylor, Crawford, and McDuffie Counties. Her teaching was spread throughout McDuffie County School System at Laura Jones, Pine Street Elementary, R.L Norris and Thomson Middle School. Throughout her teaching years, she touched many lives of teachers, students, and parents. She provided many opportunities to a lot of students that were unable to participate in school and community activities and continued to carry them under her wings as her own even after retiring. Colonel Chadwick served in a variety of assignments to include Okinawa, Germany, Hawaii, Fort Gordon, Fort Stewart, Fort Polk, Letterman Army Medical Center, Fort Dix and Fitzsimmons Medical Center in Denver. While serving in Okinawa, she was a member of the MEDEVAC Team, which escorted wounded soldiers from Vietnam to medical facilities. She was also instrumental in the development and planning of new medical facilities at Fort Polk, LA, Fort Bragg, NC and Tripler Medical Center in HI. Colonel Chadwick retired after 30 years from the United States Army Nurse Corps at Ft. Bragg in 1993.
