The Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, USS Cowpens, plys the waters of the Persian Gulf on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. The ship is part of the Kitty Hawk battle group which provides protection for the carrier as well as a platform for launching Tomahawk cruise missiles.
