Many area standouts earn all-state honors

Many area standouts were named to the Georgia Sports Writers Association All-State football teams released over the weekend.

 

Evans’ Dedrick Holmes was named first team defensive back in Class AAAAAA, while teammate Corey Watkins earned second team athlete. Knights quarterback Damekus Taylor and kicker Max Tyler earned honorable mention along with Greenbrier’s Jonquavous Brown and Grovetown’s Greggory Rodgers.

In Class AAAA, Thomson’s Christian Tutt received first team defensive back honors, while Burke County’s Damari Kelly was given second team. Richmond Academy’s Malik Knowles received honorable mention.

The Augusta area dominated the Class AA teams.

Harlem running back A.J. Brown earned first team honors, along with Glenn Hills lineman Willie Green, Jefferson County receiver Tahkwon King, and Washington County linebacker Preston Daniels and punter Cullin Collins.

Second team honors went to Jefferson County’s Micah Lawson, Harlem’s Waylin Bell, Screven County’s Kashawn Robinson and C.J. Wright, and Washington County’s Rodricus Fitten. Swainsboro’s Jalyn Williams, Screven County’s Tyquan Johnson, Harlem’s Triston Williams and Jefferson County’s Evans Hodges picked up honorable mention.

Aquinas’ Joseph Douglas was named first team linebacker for Class A Private, while teammate George Welch was given honorable mention.

Washington-Wilkes’ Deondre Lester and Brock Jackson earned first team for Class A Public. Teammate Gian Davis earned honorable mention with Lincoln County’s Javon Reid and Midarious Roberts.
