Four teams represent area in latest Georgia prep poll

Four teams continue to represent the area in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association High School Football Poll.

There was minimal movement from the four ranked schools this week, but Screven County was able to gain one spot to No. 4 in Class AA. Jefferson County stuck to No. 6 in the same classification.

The Gamecocks beat Wade Hampton 48-13 to get to 2-0, while the Warriors are also 2-0 after an off week.

Thomson held onto its spot at No. 2 in Class AAAA after topping state-ranked Jefferson 20-14 in the closing minute last week. The 3-0 Bulldogs have another tough test at home Friday against Pace Academy, which dropped out of the Class AAA poll this week.

Burke County blew past Washington County this past week and stayed at No. 9 in Class AAAA.

Swainsboro received votes in Class AA.
