AIKEN - One week after three Aiken County social workers were shot to death, police are piecing together details of what happened by re-interviewing witnesses and walking them through the crime scene.

The suspect in the Sept. 16 slayings, David Mark Hill, remained in serious condition Monday following surgery last week for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the mouth, officials at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital said.

Five warrants have been issued, but not yet served on the 36-year-old North Augusta man for three counts of murder, one count of assault and battery with intent to kill and kidnapping.

Funeral services for the workers, Josie Curry, 35, James Riddle, 52, and Michael Gregory, 30, were held last week. Gov. David Beasley will attend a memorial service in their honor today at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in North Augusta.

Sgt. Tim Pearson, spokesman for the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, said investigators are looking for any additional evidence that will help recreate the sequence of events on Sept. 16.

They also want to retrace Mr. Hill's movements immediately after the shooting when police believe he fled on foot into nearby woods, he said.

``We're going to try to determine the route Mr. Hill took to try to determine the events when he shot himself,'' Sgt. Pearson said.

Mr. Hill was found the next morning about a mile from the DSS office, lying on some railroad tracks with a gunshot wound to the mouth.
