Inmate Uprising

FAIRFAX, S.C. - Internal affairs investigators from the state Department of Corrections will return to the Allendale Correctional Institution today to try and determine what caused an uprising of about 300 inmates Monday.The revolt started at 7:30 a.m. when a fight broke out between two men in a group of about 250 prisoners headed to a work detail, authorities said

New docks leave river race high and dry

Faced with the planned construction of 75 docks along the South Carolina side of the Savannah River, race organizers are scheduled to decide today whether they will cancel the annual powerboat race or move it to a new location.

A tie poll may be one of the more unusual indicators of a presidential election, but the Mark, Fore & Strike Necktie Poll has at least been rather accurate. Every election year since 1952, the Boca Raton, Fla.-based direct mail and retail clothing company conducts an unofficial poll to forecast the winner of the presidential election, based on national sales of competing elephant and donkey design neckties.

Barkley arrived in Phoenix in 1992 just recently acquitted of battery and disorderly conduct charges in Milwaukee. The primary topics of discussion after a Dream Team practice Monday were his involvement in a brawl last weekend and his demands to be traded. |
