Friday showers break dry spell

Area vegetation got a welcome drink Friday as showers finally broke through a near two-week dry spell. Between .78 inches an inch of rain dampened the area and high temperature only reached 78 degrees, the National Weather Service reported.

Radioactive glass project going full steam

Yes, small problems continue to crop up. But overall, things look good for the world's largest waste glass-making plant. The Defense Waste Processing Facility has filled 25 steel canisters with highly radioactive waste glass since April 29, and is working round-the-clock on the 26th, Savannah River Site reported Friday.

Family and friends of 8-day-old Benjamin Joshua Noto lingered about, knowing what was about to take place but somewhat nervous, still. The ceremony they attended is called a brit milah, or bris. The ceremony is the most ancient Jewish ritual. It symbolizes the continuation of the covenant from one generation to the next, linking the newborn son to his past.

COLUMBIA - A six-run explosion by Capital City in the bottom of the sixth inning wiped out a 3-0 Augusta lead on Thursday night and led to the Bombers' 7-5 victory over the GreenJackets.
