Playing host to county foes Grovetown and Harlem, the duo connected 11 times in three games as the Lady Panthers beat Grovetown 25-15, 25-14 and Harlem 25-8, 25-9.

Grovetown (2-2) earned a split Tuesday, defeating the Lady Bulldogs (0-2) 25-9, 25-8.

“Breanna’s doing our set for us and she knows who to look for,” said Lady Panthers head coach Maureen McCormack, whose squad improved to 3-1. “I mean Holly’s our big hitter so they have a very good connection.”

In an Area 2-AAAAA early-season showdown, Lakeside jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first game against Grovetown with Alexis Dunbar recording three aces.

The Lady Warriors cut into the lead, closing to 14-13 before the Lady Panthers used a 5-0 run to gain separation and went on to win the opening match.

Trailing 4-2 in the second game, the Lady Panthers again rolled off nine consecutive points for an 11-4 advantage that they never relinquished.

Grovetown head coach Amy Slagle said she was disappointed in her team’s performance after the match.

“We just looked kind of flat out there like we really didn’t want to play tonight,” Slagle said. “It’s a whole new team is what it is. I keep changing lineups until I find the right one.”

After making the Class AA state playoffs last year, head coach Rebekkah Bullard’s Lady Bulldogs jumped up in class Tuesday night.

“Personally I think its a good experience for my team,” she said. “It gives them that edge of what it looks like to play with that quality of a volleyball program. … I have high expectations and high hopes for this group.”
