The Knights beat Grovetown 58-45, clinching first place in Region 2A-AAAAA, giving head coach Kevin Kenny his 300th career win, while the Lady Knights’ 55-44 win over the Lady Warriors gave them sole possession of first place in the sub-region.

Kenny said the 300th win was a nice personal accomplishment but that it meant more than that.

“Clinching the region was the biggest thing,” said Kenny, whose team improved to 18-4, 6-0 in Region 2A-AAAAA. “It was a great team effort, and we definitely got a lot of contributions from a lot of kids.

"300 is a special mark especially because I get to share it with (assistant coach) Roy Peake who's been with me for all of them. A lot of kids have come through all the years and helped contribute to it."

Nine Knights got into the scoring column led by K’lon Lovett, who scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the first half, followed by Matt Epps, who took over for Lovett in the second half when he scored 12 of his 14 points. Jacob Buchanan chipped in with 11 points for Evans.

The Knights jumped out to a nine-point halftime lead and six points would be as close as the Warriors (7-15, 2-4) would get the rest of the way.

The Warriors got to the free-throw line often, but they hurt themselves by converting just seven of 21.

Brandon Scott led Grovetown with 13 points while Solomon Gause added 10.

The Lady Knights took a while to warm up, but once they started making baskets they were able to utilize an effective full-court press.

That press helped turn a 6-6 tie into a 16-8 lead heading into the second quarter and they pulled away from there.

Jasmine Stone led the Lady Knights (13-7, 5-1) with 19 points, Elyssa Melton had 14 and Allysha McFarland added 10.

Leah Ferguson had 17 points for the Lady Warriors (13-8, 2-4) and Tiara Ramey had 11.
