In the quad meet that featured 47 forfeits, Lakeside went home the winner with a perfect 3-0 record. Grovetown, which fell to Lakeside in the night’s final match was 2-1; Richmond Academy was 1-2 and Josey was 0-3.
“It feels good especially since we’re coming off the break,” said Lakeside coach Brad Freeman.
The Panthers got its night rolling in the closest match of the night, taking down Richmond Academy, 42-39.
The Panthers trailed 39-24 before JaVeon Brigham pinned Richmond Academy’s Carlos Golatt at 3:51 to cut the lead to 39-30. Dominick Grizzaffi and Brad Sankey (195) then won by forfeit to give Lakeside the win.
Grovetown took out Josey in the second match of the night 40-24.
But for Josey to put a team on the mat was almost a win in itself.
The coach resigned right at the Christmas break, but rather than see the program fold, football coach Grady Nickel stepped in.
“We don’t have a lot of guys, but they’re improving and they’re having fun,” Nickel said.
In the final match of the night, the Panthers were aided by four forfeits as they beat Grovetown 52-24.
They got pins from Tyler Sisson (132), Donald True (138), Grant Plunkett (106) and Samuel Harris (113) along with a Brad Sankey (220) decision to put them over the top.
