GreenJackets sweep Savannah

Augusta pitchers allow one run in 45 innings

A scoreless streak of more than 37 innings finally came to an end for the Savannah Sand Gnats Wednesday night, but the visiting team couldn't avoid a sweep as the Augusta GreenJackets grabbed a 3-1 victory.

The GreenJackets pitching staff, which had held Savannah scoreless the entire series, finally surrendered a run on an RBI single in the second inning. But that's all the home team allowed as starter Kyle Vazquez got the win with six strike outs in seven innings pitched. Reliever Devan Kline allowed just one hit over the final two innings to pick up the save.

Designated hitter Hector Sanchez drove in two runs on a double in the fourth inning. Evan Crawford tripled with two outs in the seventh, then scored on a single by Sharlon Schoop later in the inning.

The GreenJackets picked up their first series sweep of the season with an unprecendented pitching effort at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Augusta pitching staff allowed one run in 45 innings.
