Augusta falls by one run

Ryan Anetsberger scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and the Greensboro Grasshoppers held on to edge the Augusta GreenJackets 3-2 Friday night in a South Atlantic League game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Augusta reliever Daniel Runz-ler retired the first two batters to open the ninth before allowing a single to Anetsberger, who advanced to second on a wild pitch. Anetsberger took third on an infield single by Thomas Hickman, which loaded the bases. With Adam Howard at the plate, Runzler uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Anetsberger to score.

Augusta (0-2) turned a triple play in the third inning. With runners on the corners, Emilo Ontiveros lined out to Thomas Neal at first base. Neal dove to the bag to force out Jameson Smith for the second out. Adam Howard broke for home, and Neal got up and ran across the field, tossing the ball to third baseman Andrew Davis to complete the triple play.
