Golf fans around the world will be able to apply for Masters Tournament tickets for the first time next year thanks to a new online ticketing policy announced by the Augusta National Golf Club this morning.
Golf fans can submit a ticket application for 2012 daily tournament tickets online at www.masters.com and can also apply for practice round tickets.
"Moving the entire application process to our official tournament web site is a safe and convenient way for those wishing to apply for daily practice round tickets," Augusta National chairman Billy Payne said in a statement. "We are also pleased to provide a limited number of tickets for the individual tournament round days, which, up until now, have only been allocated to our series badge holders."
Practice round tickets had been available to the public through a random lottery, but the application process for tournament badges has been closed since 1971. A waiting list to be considered for a tournament badge application was closed in 1978, briefly opened in 2000 and has been closed for more than a decade.
Fans will now be able to apply for a maximum of two daily tournament tickets and four daily practice round tickets. Full series badges, good for Thursday through Sunday, will remain available only to the series badge holders, according to the statement.
