Augusta State's golf team is headed to the White House to be honored for its national championship.
President Obama will hold the reception Sept. 13 to commend all NCAA championship teams in a wide variety of sports, from fencing to bowling.
The event will also recognize the efforts of dozens of schools' sports teams to give back to their communities, according to a news release Friday evening.
The team won Augusta State's first national championship in a varsity sport June 6 with a victory over Oklahoma State at The Honors Course just outside of Chattanooga, Tenn.
In the run-up to the final match, the Jaguars also defeated No. 2 seed Florida State and No. 3 seed Georgia Tech, even as one Jaguar player fought through flulike symptoms.
More victory celebrations will kick off next week with a proclamation from the mayor and a dinner presented by Augusta State's Birdie Club, a patron group, to honor the team..
That dinner will include the unveiling of the national championship banner, and the team members will receive their rings.
