Web-posted 07/12/2002 > Ed Rees never had to wonder. "As long as I can remember, the last thing before I fell asleep, my dad - the former marine pilot - would come in my room and kiss my head and tell me he loved me," said the Evans man, now a father of two himself. "I always knew he meant it too."

Web-posted 07/12/2002 > When our children turned 6 the "allowance issue" became a subject of a lot of discussion. We felt that contributions to household activities should be rewarded but not necessarily with money. We developed a weekly chart of daily responsibilities. At the end of the week, if all responsibilities were done, the child was able to pick their favorite foods for a weekend celebration dinner, pick out a video for the family to see, or choose a board game for the whole family. At the bottom of the daily responsibility list, were extra jobs and opportunities that could earn money. These usually took longer or were little harder and were special jobs, as they did not routinely occur. We found this helped our children learn the value of money and the responsibilities in sharing household activities.
