COLUMBIA --- Aiken Technical College ranked in the middle -- 55th in expenditures, including in-state, out-of-state and contract-employee travel costs -- out of 110 state agencies and schools listed in a report from the comptroller general's office. Nine of the technical college system's 16 institutions spent more than Aiken Technical College.
Aiken Tech spent $149,500, which was slightly more than the attorney general's office.
Aiken Tech's total included $9,800 by its top-spending official, President Susan Winsor.
Aiken Tech said faculty and staff had to travel to receive training, attend regional conferences, obtain and maintain accreditation for academic programs such as National League Nursing Accreditation Council and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The comptroller general report listed Clemson University as spending the most -- $9.8 million.
