Ready to roll

When passengers on board 9-11's doomed Flight 93 attacked the terrorists in control of the plane, one of the last things heard was Todd Beamer's inspirational exhortation: "Let's roll!"

That's pretty much what passengers on board Northwest Flight 253 did, in foiling a frightening attempt to bring down the plane near Detroit on Christmas Day. A flying Dutchman, Jasper Schuringa, landed on the terrorist and heroically snuffed out his plans.

Message to terrorists: That's just how we roll.

In their blind and life-loathing rage at anything non-Muslim, our enemies sorely underestimate Westerners. Our security systems may be wholly imperfect, and our kindness and openness leaves us vulnerable. But the Western spirit is perfectly suited to defending our lives with a vengeance.

They mistake our love of life and our desire to enjoy the many gifts God has bestowed on us as weakness. They had no idea how the folks on Flight 93 would fight to the death. They seemed unprepared for how this nation would take the fight to them on foreign soil after 9-11. And that pitiable, blundering sad-sack jihadist on Flight 253 had no inkling how quickly and fiercely Westerners would fight back.

We are peace-loving people. Yet, when provoked, there is no greater force on Earth. We have had to fight the world's battles since 2001, and will continue to do so. And when a murderous moron tries to take hundreds down in an airplane, we won't sit idly by. We'll take you down instead.

That's just how we roll.
