Nothing describes the Democratic "leadership" in Washington so much as "fair-weather friends."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., famously declared the Iraq War "lost" while U.S. troops were still in the heat of battle. Nice. And, obviously, quite wrong.
Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., declared a handful of Marines guilty of war crimes before the evidence was in. Nice. And, oh by the way, quite wrong.
Now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has turned on her government by claiming she never knew harsh interrogation methods were being used on terror suspects.
Intelligence information released this past week not only contradicts her, but indicates she was one of the first two members of Congress briefed on interrogation methods - way back in 2002.
Back then, the weather was fair. Now the climate is different, and Pelosi is shocked - shocked! - to find out waterboarding was going on!
Now, in other words, the political winds have shifted and she's against it.
She is beyond reprehensible. She has been lying to save her own skin and throwing her country overboard in her attempt to be at the head of the anti-American parade on "torture."
And this woman is third in line to the presidency.
