Liberals seized upon what they thought was an "aha" moment last year, when word got out about the out-of-wedlock pregnancy of Bristol Palin, 18-year-old daughter of Alaska Gov. and GOP vice-presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. So much for conservative family values, they snorted.
Now the "aha" moment has become a teachable moment, with Bristol making the rounds nationally as a spokeswoman for the Candie's Foundation to educate girls about the reality of teen pregnancy.
The message: Motherhood is tough; it's even tougher if you're a teen. But Miss Palin says she has lovingly embraced her new motherhood with no regrets.
On this Mother's Day, we should remember that motherhood is not merely a biological circumstance. It's a moral responsibility. A philosophy. A privilege. An opportunity, even when unexpected, that should not be squandered.
Mothers, enjoy your day today.
