We're grateful there are still so many World War II veterans alive today. We're sure sorry if any of them saw this particular story, though, which is sadly telling of today's America:
A Jacksonville, Fla., man called 9-1-1 recently to report that a Subway restaurant had left sauce off his sandwich.
Inconsolable, the man ultimately had to be arrested.
Now, this gentleman may suffer from a mental illness. We don't know. But the story is nonetheless indicative of today's entitlement mentality. For years, Americans have been asked to make precious few sacrifices for their country. Instead, they've been told the customer is always right, you can have it your way, no rules, blah blah blah. And so, when we don't get our order right or can find some other excuse to complain, we ask to see the manager and expect the meal to be free or the bill to be reduced. Or we call 9-1-1.
Is this the same country that freed Europe and defeated Japan?
