Man arrested for DUI after chasing robber


COLUMBUS --- A 20-year-old Columbus man faces charges after police arrested him while he tried to chase several men who robbed him and his friends at gunpoint early Friday.

The unidentified man ended up wrecking his Ford Focus during the car chase and was charged with driving under the influence and crossing a center line.

Two Columbus State University students told police they were with the man and another male friend at a gas station about 2 a.m. when a man approached and demanded money at gunpoint. The robber took $300 from one of the men and three cell phones, then jumped into the green van and fled.

The two male victims then decided to get into their own vehicle and chase the van.

Man faces murder charge in wife's death

SAVANNAH --- Savannah area police arrested a 69-year-old in the shooting death of his wife of more than 40 years.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested Robert M. Johnson on Saturday in the death of 66-year-old Mary Ellen Johnson. He's charged with murder.

Witnesses told police the couple got into an argument that ended in the shooting. Mrs. Johnson was transported to Memorial Hospital where she died.

Officers quickly apprehended Mr. Johnson, who had left the residence after the shooting.

College honors band members hurt in crash

ATLANTA --- Morehouse College planned to honor students involved in Saturday's bus crash that injured more than a dozen members of the marching band at a special church service Sunday focusing on gratitude.

One of three buses carrying the "House of Funk" Marching Band to Albany State for a football game skidded off Interstate 75 South in Henry County and flipped twice Saturday morning, leaving two students with serious injuries. One band member was kept overnight at Grady Memorial Hospital, but none of the injuries was life threatening.
