Aiken sheriff issues alert after crimes

AIKEN -- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to do the neighborly thing and report suspicious activities in their communities.

After three recent home invasions and a string of burglaries, officers want citizens to call the sheriff's office if anything seems amiss, said Capt. Troy Elwell, spokesman.

Last week Beech Island resident Randy Harris intervened when he saw three men breaking into his neighbor's home on Dicks Drive, and chased the men as they were leaving the home.

Elwell said although officers are constantly on patrol, they can't be everywhere at one time and need community assistance in reporting crimes.

Residents can call (803) 648-6811 to report a non-emergency.
