Walls mostly up on the Starbucks plant

Driving past the Starbucks, I see walls enclosing half of the plant and some structural steel showing on the other half.

Starbucks is the first plant to go up inside the Augusta Corporate Park in south Augusta. Workers should be making coffee packets there in 2014.

The company is spending $172 million on the facility and will hire 140 people. The plant will be Starbucks first facility in the world to roast, package and ship soluble coffee products.

Landing the company in the industrial park earned the Augusta Economic Development Authority and award for deal of the year in 2012 by the Georgia Economic Developers Association.

ANOTHER WAY TO GAUGE HOUSING MARKET PERFORMANCE: In the last 15 months of sales data from the Greater Augusta Association of Realtors, eight of those months were double digit percentage increases from the year before.

And three of the months were declines from the performance of the month in the year before.

TRIANGLE: Triangle Rent A Car opened at 3025 Washington Road in Augusta just before the Masters.

That location was once the Omakase Japanese Steakhouse. Triangle is a small chain of 29 locations in Virginia, Georgia and the Carolinas.

They’ve been in business for 34 years.
