Personal income higher in all metro's counties

Remember back. Did you feel richer last year?

The number crunchers in the nation’s capital says people in metro Augusta earned more money in 2011 than 2010 – $1,400 more.

This is from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. (And, yes, they just got around to releasing the 2011 data for personal incomes.)

Per capita personal income for 2011 in metro Augusta was $34,640, based on the metro population of 561,850 people. Nationally, personal income rose in all of the nation’s 366 metropolitan statistical areas for the first time since 2007.

Incomes also rose in 3,062 of the nation’s 3,113 counties, which happened in all six of the metro counties.

Getting the county-by-county results held an eye opener. Income in Edgefield County was $2,300 higher in 2011 than in 2010.

  • Richmond County: $30,320 in 2011, $29,391 in 2010
  • Columbia County: $42,717 in 2011, $41,004 in 2010
  • Aiken County: $35,141 in 2011, $33,629 in 2010
  • Edgefield County: $33,615 in 2011, $31,312 in 2010
  • Burke County: $28,549 in 2011, $27,141 in 2010
  • McDuffie County: $29,682 in 2011, $31,174 in 2010

We’ll know what happened this year in about a year.

BUILDING A BANK: The corner of the parking lot at the Kroger in Evans has been blocked off with preparation underway for the new First Bank of Georgia branch.

It will be the bank’s third branch in the county. Expect to see it open in 2013.

ATLANTIC IS NOW COGECO: Cogeco Cable completed its acquisition of Atlantic Broadband, so cable customers in Aiken have a new provider.

Don’t be surprised to see some Canadian channels in the lineup. Cogeco is based in Montreal and its stock is traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The acquisition, which was originally announced in July, was final on Nov. 30.

Atlantic Broadband was the 12th largest cable operator in the U.S. Its 650 employees will be absorbed into the new owner.
