Most parents send their kids to summer camp to give them something to do over the summer. Most of the time parents don't think about what camp can do for a kid. I just recently finished the orchestra camp at ASU. I've been playing 2nd violin for a few years now and I was suddenly thrown into first violin, but I was up for the challenge. I had a really good time at camp and while I could go on and on telling you all about it I will just jump to the point, I gathered a lot from camp. I realized that even though I'm going into my 8th year of playing the violin I still get nervous and I never would've learned that had I not have gone to camp. Now I can take this newfound information and grow as a musician. Not only did camp help my musicianship it has also helped me to come out of my shell some. I've always been a keep to myself type of person and going to a camp for one thing automatically gives everyone something in common and makes meeting new people a lot easier. Overall summer camp is a great opportunity for kids and parents should do anything they can to send their kids to them. It not only takes up time, but can also help by steering kids into the right direction and help to start shaping their future.
