I moved to Augusta in 2008 to cover religion for the Chronicle. I didn't know a soul this far South at the time, but the area is quickly becoming home. Before then, I covered the cop beat and crime while working at a newspaper in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I got my start in Virginia writing features for a community weekly while in college.

Your 'Senior Saints'

For the past six weeks of the Your Faith section in The Augusta Chronicle, we've featured "Senior Saints" as nominated by members of their congregations. We put the call out to local churches in mid-June, and quickly received a number of names. We chose just six to include in the newspaper, but I wish we could have featured them all.

"We are fortunate to have many angels amongst us," Marianne Frye, who nominated saint Rena Mobley, wrote to us last week.

She's right. Here are a few other folks you told us were also deserving of the honor. Each received at least one nomination from a member of their church or pastoral staff:

Marion Cooper of The Path Worship Center

Martha Allen of New Destiny Triumph Ministries

Mac Johnson of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church

Karen Turner of First Baptist Church of Augusta

Lucinda Kenner of Friendship Baptist Church

Gladys Acree of Good Shepherd Baptist Church

Classie West of Tabernacle Baptist Church

Jake Malone of First Baptist Church of Augusta

Who else deserves a mention? Leave us a comment with their name and church.
