I moved to Augusta in 2008 to cover religion for the Chronicle. I didn't know a soul this far South at the time, but the area is quickly becoming home. Before then, I covered the cop beat and crime while working at a newspaper in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I got my start in Virginia writing features for a community weekly while in college.

Singer-songwriter Lara Landon returns to Augusta

You might remember Christian artist Lara Landon from concerts she's played at area churches over the years.

The singer-songwriter returns to Augusta for two more concerts next weekend. One raises school supplies for children in Harrisburg, where St. Luke United Methodist Church is located.

Landon, known for her chart-topping single, Closer, released her sophomore album, Overcome, on May 1. The concerts will feature stories and songs from the new album, along with originals from her 2009 debut, Beloved.

The concerts are:

7 p.m. June 9 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 309 Crawford Ave. Audience members are asked to bring one item for the church’s school supply drive benefiting Harrisburg children.

10:30 a.m. June 10 at Mosaic United Methodist Church, 478 Columbia Industrial Blvd., Evans. The concert will be held during the church's morning worship service.

Both the benefit concert and worship concert are free, but offerings will be taken. See laralandononline.com for more information.
