I moved to Augusta in 2008 to cover religion for the Chronicle. I didn't know a soul this far South at the time, but the area is quickly becoming home. Before then, I covered the cop beat and crime while working at a newspaper in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I got my start in Virginia writing features for a community weekly while in college.

Bluegrass with The Wintons

Bluegrass trio The Wintons perform a live concert Sunday at Family Bible Church, 124 B Commercial Blvd., Martinez.

THE EVENT: The group performs after the 10:30 a.m. morning service, which visitors are invited to attend. A covered dish dinner follows the service at 12:30 p.m., with the performance wrapping up the afternoon at 2 p.m.

THE GROUP: The Wintons, including Randy and his two sons, Cody and Jesse, have been playing gospel and bluegrass music together for more than four years.
Lead singer Randy started playing guitar at 21, just a few years after he came to Christ.
He went on to serve sixteen churches, six of them as worship pastor.
Cody Winton plays an assortment of strings, including banjo, fiddle, rhythm guitar, and bass, while also singing lead and harmony vocals.
Jesse plays mandolin, rhythm and lead guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals.
