I grew up in the Augusta area, living in Waynesboro for as long as I can remember. I went to college in Indianapolis, interned at the Chronicle over summer and Christmas breaks, and landed a job as sports clerk the summer after I graduated. Eventually, the sports job turned into writing for the business section and now I report on local business happenings as well as writing for the Shopgirl column/blog.

I've Tried This and It's Awesome: the Body Essentials facial cleansing/massage brush

Occasionally, I receive products from various and sundry brands asking me to review them or include them in my column. I like to write about things that you can buy in the Augusta area (unless it's just crazy neat, like those cell phone lenses from PhotoJojo), so I wasn't sure how to review the ones I did like.

Let me introduce my new series of blog posts, I've Tried This and It's Awesome. This first entry is about Body Essentials' facial cleansing and massage brush.

Body Essentials sent me this brush and I was originally a little bit skeptical, mainly about using something that has batteries anywhere near water. I'm a little bit paranoid about electrocution. My curiosity won, however, so I gave the little green spinning brush a try.

And it is indeed awesome.

The gadget is basically a handheld rotating motor with three attachments: a brush, a bumpy massage head and a smooth massage head. There are three speeds and the batteries, to my relief, are tightly enclosed within a rubber casing so as to not kill you in the shower.

I have always been hesitant to scrub my face, reading in magazines and hearing from my dermatologist that being too abrasive is really bad for your skin. However, this brush is soft enough that it doesn't hurt or scratch at all, but scrubs enough that you feel cleaner than ever before.

The massage attachments are amazing. The smooth one is great for moisturizing, and the bumpy one is great if you feel like your face needs to wake up a little bit.

The brush is $49.99 with the three attachments on the Body Essentials website. I saw it on Amazon.com for less than $30, though.

It may seem a little indulgent, but I don't think you'll regret buying this nifty little face thing.

You can't put a price on healthy, clean, beautiful skin.

*Again, full disclosure: Body Essentials sent me this brush for free. They are not paying me to review their product.
