North Augusta's Glen Hurt is among those golfers who are glad the Augusta City Amateur is a 54-hole tournament, even if it does fall in the heat of the summer. The other eight Regions Banks Amateur Series tournaments are 36 holes.
Hurt won the senior division of the city am Sunday because he had an extra round to make up for what he described as a "horrible finish" in the second round.
Hurt was in the lead with three holes to play in Saturday's second round, but made double bogeys on Nos. 16, 17 and 18 to finish with 75. That put him two off the lead. With a 72 on Sunday, he won by two shots.
"I was down Saturday because I knew I had a decent lead and just blew it," Hurt said. "Thank God it's a three-day tournament and not a two-day tournament. I would have hated to finish like that and not have another day to try to make up for it."
