Braves, Giants prospect report: June 2-8

Games for June 2-8:

Performers for each level:

Braves AAA: Christian Bethancourt - 10-26, 3 2B, 3 RBI

Bethancourt's defense will always be his strength, and his hitting is the only thing that could keep him in the minor leagues, or from reaching his ceiling. A week like this is always a good sign. Bethancourt made swing adjustments to be able to tap into his power more often, but his ISO has fallen back to .108 in Triple-A after .159 in Double-A last season.

Braves AA: Kyle Kubitza - 9-25, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SB

Kubitza is taking a big step forward in prospect circles by improving upon his numbers in his first trip to Double-A. He's hitting .296/.400/.444 with 10 extra-base hits, 11 stolen bases and 33 walks in 225 plate appearances. Kubitza has some moving parts to his swing, but he's handling the Double-A jump and continues to prove any doubters wrong as a potential future third base option.

Braves A+: Jose Peraza - 12-29, 2 2B, 2 3B, HR, 5 RBI, 3 SB

Peraza has been perhaps the top Braves prospect performer so far this season, hitting .331/.358/.451 with 21 extra-base hits and 30 stolen bases in 277 plate appearances for Advanced-A. Peraza's glove is ready and profiles as plus for second base, so it's a matter of developing the bat. He's taking a huge step forward this season by proving he has the strength to avoid getting the bat knocked from his hands. He remains the second baseman of the future for the Braves.

Braves A: Jacob Schrader - 10-22, 2 2B, 3B, 6 RBI, 4 BB

Schrader was a late draft pick and is a corner guy, so he's not the flashy prospect like others on this list. But he's been a steady performer for Rome so far, hitting .276/.350/.448 with 15 extra-base hits in 183 plate appearances. Schrader has some pop in the bat, but it will have to carry his value if wants to make it in the upper levels.

Giants AAA: Adam Duvall - 9-24, 2B, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 2 BB

Duvall is taking full advantage of the Pacific Coast League's environments with 19 home runs in only 228 plate appearances. He's slugging .644 and has a .341 ISO. There's nothing flashy about Duvall's game, but he has excellent raw power and shows the ability to tap into it. It's the one tool that will have to carry him, but it has so far as a pro.

Giants AA: Matt Duffy - 9-23, 3B, RBI, 3 BB, 2 SB

Duffy has done nothing but succeed as a pro, reaching Double-A and hitting .330/.390/.407 with 13 extra-base hits and 14 stolen bases in 249 plate appearances. He hits everywhere he goes and is proving to be a very valuable 18th-round pick. Duffy's game isn't flashy, but he does the routine stuff, and his tools play up with excellent instincts. He could develop into a solid utility player for the Giants.

Giants A+: Ben Turner - 9-20, 2 2B, 3 RBI

Turner, Duffy's 2013 teammate in Augusta, isn't moving at the same pace, but he had a good week. Turner has the body and swing for at least some power, but he hasn't tapped into it yet as a pro. His best quality is a solid approach at the plate.

Giants A: John Polonius - 10-24, 2B, 9 RBI, 2 BB, SB

It's been a struggle for Polonius this year, but he had an extremely hot week for Augusta to raise his average to .236. Polonius is a fairly steady defender with a quick bat, but he hasn't tapped into it during games yet.
