GreenJackets Gameday: Rematch of college teammates, opponents

Friday, May 3 - 7:05 p.m.

Hagerstown Suns (15-11)

RHP Dixon Anderson (28 IP, 2.25 ERA, 2.49 FIP, 24 K%, 2.7 BB%, .244 BABIP)

Augusta GreenJackets (16-10)

RHP Kendry Flores (23.2 IP, 1.52 ERA, 2.69 FIP, 19.1 K%, 3.4 BB%, .221 BABIP)

Despite bigger names in the first two games of the series, the series finale could feature the best pitching matchup. Anderson has allowed just one earned run over his past 10.1 innings, and he hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his five starts. The 6-foot-5 right-hander out of California has allowed just three walks and one home run in 28 innings.

Flores has been even better, allowing no more than two earned runs in any of his four starts, and just two earned runs over his past 17.2 innings. He doesn't have the strikeout numbers of Anderson, but Flores has been equally solid in limiting walks, which is something the GreenJackets would like to have continue after walks got them in trouble the past couple nights.

On March 13, 2011, Long Beach State played California as part of the Cal Baseball Classic at AT&T Park. The game featured four players who are all meeting again on the field tonight.

Long Beach State's Matt Duffy, drafted in the 18th round by the Giants in 2012, went 0 for 4 at second base. California's Tony Renda, drafted in the second round by the Nationals in 2012, went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Teammate Mitch Delfino, drafted in the 20th round by the Giants in 2012, went 0 for 4. Teammate Dixon Anderson was the starting pitcher for California, pitching 5.2 shutout innings. He was drafted by the Nationals in the ninth round in 2011.

Now, Duffy and Delfino make up half of the GreenJackets infield. Renda is the starting second baseman for Hagerstown, and Anderson is starting on the mound for the Suns.

California beat Long Beach State 6-1 in the game. Considering the two Hagerstown players had better luck that day, the two Augusta players might be due in the rematch.
