GreenJackets Gameday: Gregorio on mound for series finale

Wednesday, April 17 - 10:35 a.m.

Lexington Legends (4-9)

RHP Miguel Almonte (7.2 IP, 7.04 ERA, 3.59 FIP, 22.2 K%, 5.6 BB%, .400 BABIP)

Augusta GreenJackets (8-4)

RHP Joan Gregorio (11 IP, 0.82 ERA, 1.11 FIP, 33.3 K%, 2.6 BB%, .240 BABIP)

The GreenJackets are going for a three-game sweep of the Legends after taking the first three against them in the season opener. Augusta's hottest pitcher is on the mound attempting to finish the sweep. The two teams are playing a rare morning game before Lexington leaves town and Kannapolis comes to visit.

Gregorio pitched six shutout innings on three hits against Charleston last time out, with no walks and eight strikeouts. The tall right-hander has allowed just one run and one walk in 11 innings over two starts.

Some notes on Almonte from's Mark Smith:

"Despite his slight frame, he brings the arm strength – sitting 91-92 while touching 93. Almonte adds a strong change-up with sink and tail that he turned over well at 81-82 and had batters flailing. His curveball is his third pitch, and it lags behind the change-up, though he did throw a couple solid ones at 76-77. The issue in his start was his command, possibly caused by a choppy delivery."
