Weekly picks in Georgia high school football

Richmond Academy at Cross Creek

The winner takes second place in the subregion, and Richmond Academy has the edge thanks to its line and the dangerous C.J. Welcher. The Musketeers have scored a combined 90 points the past two weeks and will get more than enough in this game.

Richmond Academy, 31-14

Evans at Lakeside

Lakeside did lose to Jones County in its most recent game, but the offense hasn’t been a disappointment lately. The Panthers have scored at least 34 points in three consecutive games heading into this county game. Lakeside could get there again.

Lakeside, 28-10

Grovetown at Greenbrier

It’s been a rough stretch for the Wolfpack, as Greenbrier has lost seven in a row. Grovetown hopes to keep that streak going and win just its third game this season. The two games in this series have been decided by eight total points, so expect another close one.

Grovetown, 21-17

Dublin at Laney

The Wildcats have been impressive their past three games, winning all three after a one-point loss to Screven County. Going by this season’s results, Dublin shouldn’t be much of an obstacle for Laney as it gets its sixth win.

Laney, 35-7

Wilkinson County at Lincoln County

The top spot in Region 7-A is on the line. The Red Devils have won six in a row; the Warriors have taken five. Lincoln County has history on its side, though. The Red Devils have lost to Wilkinson County only once in eight games.

Lincoln County, 21-20

Curtis Baptist at Thomas Jefferson

What a season it’s been for the Crusaders. At 6-3, Curtis Baptist has its most wins in a single season. But this is a great test. Thomas Jefferson is a perennial power and will win a game between a pair of teams unbeaten in region play.

Thomas Jefferson, 35-20

East Laurens at Westside

Not only would the Patriots clinch a winning season if they beat East Laurens, they would be one step closer to the state playoffs. However, the Falcons will be fired up following back-to-back losses to Laney and Screven County.

East Laurens, 17-10

Josey at Screven County

The Gamecocks can clinch the region’s top seed with a win against Josey, and they’ll probably cruise to a victory. Screven County has won five in a row in this series and should have no problems finding running room against the Eagles.

Screven County, 42-7
