Some local GHSA-member schools begin football practice tomorrow, so I thought it would be a good time to start thinking about the Power Poll.

Here’s what I came up with less than four weeks until the start of the season:

My Preseason Power Poll

1. Burke County

2. Washington County

3. North Augusta

4. Thomson

5. Strom Thurmond

6. Lincoln County

7. Laney

8. South Aiken

9. Williston-Elko

10. Aquinas

All of these teams should have good seasons – provided they stay healthy, of course. Burke County and Lincoln County are two obvious state title contenders, but, just like last year, Burke County could be the area’s best again.
