There are games with a lot of points.
Then there was Friday's Thomson-Lakeside contest. The Bulldogs won 57-39, with a combined 70 points scored in the second half. With the win, Thomson proved it's one of the best teams in the area. Lakeside might be as well, but the Panthers have another big game this Thursday against North Augusta.
-Burke County, Thomson and Washington County could all be ranked by the end of the season, or at least make compelling cases. The Bears are probably the safest bet, and the winner of next week's Bulldogs-Golden Hawks game will most likely enter the Class AAA rankings.
-Grovetown should close as the North division's No. 2 team. With a young ARC squad struggling, the Warriors look like the second-place finish. That would mean a game against (most likely) Butler or Hephzibah with a spot in the state playoffs on the line. Of course, it's still early September. Injuries could strike and someone like ARC could improve drastically.
-Kudos to South Aiken. The Thoroughbreds (2-0) look like this year's version of Butler. They have their toughest game this Friday when they play Silver Bluff, but no matter what happens, the program has taken huge steps in only a few weeks this season.
-You like points? Be sure to catch Lakeside's game this Thursday. North Augusta crosses the river, and both teams could score in the 30s. That being said, watch the final be something like 10-7.
