Bi-Lo gives facelifts to area stores

Walking through the Bi-Lo in Daniel Village shopping center, you can still experience that new-wood smell from the renovation.

The grocery store corporation this week unveiled the three metro-area stores they renovated. In addition to the store on Wrightsboro Road, Bi-Lo redid the one at 1631 Gordon Highway in Augusta and 4480 Columbia Road in Martinez. They more resemble the newer stores that Bi-Lo has in Columbia County.


THE KING HASN'T LEFT YET: The word from Louisville, Ga., is that the Thermo King plant is still running, but it could cease operations next month.

Thermo King announced in July 2011 that it was closing its plant in Jefferson County to move production to Nebraska. More than 200 people worked at the plant, but about a third of them were eligible for retirement.

Thermo King, which makes refrigerated rail cars and truck trailers, has been in Louisville since the 1960s. The decision to close came from parent company Ingersoll Rand.


FROM RUBY TO RAY: Word from the Ruby Tuesday corporation is that the conversion of the restaurant on Bobby Jones Expressway is nearly complete. The anticipated re-opening is Nov. 7.

The company converted the Ruby Tuesday restaurant into one of its seafood concept restaurants, called Marlin & Ray’s.

It’s the third one in Georgia. The others are in Atlanta.
