Fewer foreclosures hitting the housing market this year

With four months of foreclosure data in the books, the number of homes going to the bank is going down compared to last year - which was a record setter for this area.
According to RealtyTrac, from January to April, there were 998 foreclosures. That's down from 1,455 for that four-month span in 2010.
One of the main reasons for the decline is Richmond County, which is down 200 foreclosures year-to-date.
Columbia County is down about 20 from a year ago and Aiken County is down 10 from a year ago.

REVAMPING THE APPLE: Three of the Applebee's restaurants in Augusta will be closing for renovations. Crews apparently only need three days to give the restaurants a more contemporary design and revitalize the interior and exterior.
The restaurant on Windsor Spring Road has already been done.
The Washington Road location near Furys Ferry Road will close Monday and reopen Thursda y
The third area restaurant, on North Belair Road in Evans, will gets its work between May 23-26.
The Applebee's corporate staff said Augusta is among the first in the country to get the new look and feel.

MILES: Frequent flier miles can be accumulated in more ways than flying. Augusta Regional Airport has a new concept that might give the frequent parkers something to smile about.
Republic Parking System, which administers the parking lots, has teamed up with a company called Thanks Again Traveler Loyalty Program to get local travelers a chance to earn miles for six major airline carriers.
From now until June 30, enrolled travelers will get a mile for every dollar spent parking.

REMOTE DEPOSITS: CSRA Credit Union has devised a way for its customers to sit at home and deposit checks.
The credit union added EZDeposit to its online banking services. The new service enables home or office users to deposit checks remotely using a scanner.
EZDeposit users only have to scan the front and back of their checks, confirm the deposit and print a transaction receipt for their records.
Remote deposit is more common among financial institutions, but most require members to mail checks to financial institutions after scanning the item. The scanning eliminates that with this system.

MR. BOJANGLES: Bojangles cravers in Thomson can now get some chicken and biscuits close by.
The new restaurant on Washington Road is the sixth in the Augusta metro area.
The franchise owner is a husband-wife team, Patrick and Sandra Landon.
