Tharon Giddens' quest for fast, cheap and tasty

Cheap and good lunch at Thai Kitchen

Back | Next

You can get a cheap and tasty introduction to Thai cuisine by ordering off the weekday lunch menu at Thai Kitchen in Evans.

The lunch menu is pared down but  inexpensive, with an entree, a drink and spring roll costing  less than the Lunch Money goal of $10 each, including tip.

If you're up to a splurge, though, add a cup of soup to your meal. Thai Kitchen's coconut milk-and-curry chicken soup is one of the best soups in Augusta. It's not listed on the lunch menu, but you can ask for it. We added soup and, with tip, paid $25.29.

Lunch Buddy Donna and I enjoyed a quick lunch there one recent Monday. Weekends after church, I usually get the jungle curry, but it's not on the weekday menu. I instead ordered ginger chicken with vegetables, a dish with no fire but plenty of subtle flavor. It was pleasing and filling.
Donna chose her regular favorite, curry chicken, a rich curry broth with sweet potatoes and potatoes.

At most Oriental restaurants I select white rice, but the fried rice here is light and agreeably chewy instead of hard.

The dining room is small and spartan, but comfortable. Service is efficient and fast enough to get you fed  in 30 minutes.

Thai Kitchen has hands down

Thai Kitchen has hands down the BEST Thai food in Augusta. It rivals many Atlanta Thai restaurants that I used to frequent.

The atmophere leaves a lot to be desired but it can be overlooked in favor of excellent food.

Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I totally agree...the best

I totally agree...the best Thai food (or Asian food for that matter) in the area. It's always freshly made to order and the restaurant seems to be a family affair. The atmosphere is nothing special, but we go there for the food, it's the star of the show. (If the owners are reading, it would help if you turned the music back on!)
