The idea of blue eye makeup may conjure visions of bad ‘80s fashion, but much like Ray Ban sunglasses and leggings, it’s making a comeback.
I’m not talking matte light blue. I mean shimmery aqua, turquoise and deep blue, and it’s perfect for summer. Blue, mixed with shimmery taupe, bronze and brown, alludes to a seascape, and it’s a wearable look whether you have fair or dark skin.
I found a collection of four shadows and a powder liner at Sephora, Miami Vibes No. 11, for about $25. It has everything you’d need to put this look together. The neutral shades it includes are basics, so you can likely find a cheaper version at a drugstore. However, I often go with the Sephora brand because you can look around the store at the trends and then buy their less expensive, but still quality versions of brand name makeup.
Here’s different ways to wear blue:
For a subtle splash of color, apply a shimmery taupe from lashline to brow. Use a lighter aqua or turquoise and apply just above the crease. Swoop the color upwards, keeping the same thickness of the line, once you near the outside of the line of your eye.
For a multidimensional blue look, use two colors of blue, but remember to use the darker or more intense color closer to the eye, while using the lighter color blue (aqua is a good choice for this) on the brow bone and corner of the eye.
An intense look for night: use the shadow you would usually use for smoky eyes. Apply through the crease and as liner below the eye. Find a blue the same level of intensity of color and apply right above the crease. Use a lighter blue to the brow. Use a thin line of silver liner around the eye.
If you wear blue on your eyes, everything else on your face should be neutral. Go for a peach or bronze blush and a clear or light neutral lip color.
Do not wear pink or red lipstick unless you’re dressing up for ‘80s night.
