State final updates

Game 1: Wesleyan 9, Aquinas 4 (FINAL)

Game 2: Wesleyan 13, Aquinas 0 (FINAL)

Wesleyan wins Class A title

Who's pitching Game 2: Devin Stanton (W) vs. Sam Few (A), Jim Riley (2), Bowen Klosinski (4).

What's going on: Wesleyan singled twice in the first, but the Irish made a nice turn on a 4-6-3 DP to end the inning. ... Aquinas leads 1-0, but had a chance for a big inning. The Irish left the bases loaded. Bowen Klosinski doubled in the run. In the second, Wesleyan wasted a leadoff single and got nothing again. Aquinas did the same in the bottom. Aquinas gave up the lead, but avoided a big third inning. Wesleyn went single, double, groundout, sac fly and fly out.  ... Then, Brendan Douglas homered to center field to tie things again.

Wesleyan went in order in the fourth. ... Then Aquinas left two runners on. That hurt.

Kevin O'Leary hit a two-run HR in the fifth for Wesleyan. In its half of the fifth, Aquinas wasted a leadoff walk and left another man on. Seddrick Dixon clubbed a ball to the warning track with one out, a ball that looked and sounded like it was outta here.

Wesleyan left two on in the sixth. ... Aquinas loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth; Wesleyan changed pitchers. Aquinas scored two on a shallow single and sac fly.

Things fell apart (great sports cliche)  for Irish in the seventh. Wesleyan had two on with two out and a 2-2 count. A base hit scored one, a balk scored another, an error in left field scored another, a single scored another, a single scored another. Aquinas left two on in the seventh, but really lost the game with two outs in the top half.

To start the second game, Aquinas loaded the bases with two outs against Georgia Tech recruit Stanton, but couldn't score. Wesleyan then sent all nine batters to the plate and scored four. ... Aquinas got a one-out single in the second, but nothing else. Wesleyan hit a grand slam in the second inning, part of a six-run frame.

The Irish managed only two hits in the second game, which was called after their half of the fifth inning because Wesleyan led by at least 10 runs. Wesleyan wins state title.

Game 1: Marist 5, Lakeside 0 (FINAL)

Game 2: Marist 11, Lakeside 7 (FINAL)

Marist wins the Class AAAA title

Who pitched Game 1: Evan Geist (M) vs. Jeff Stoner (L).

Who is pitching in Game 2: Ben Black (L), Zach Hayden (4) vs. Blake Stevens (M)

What's going on: Marist singled four times in the third to score two, then doubled twice in the fourth to start a two-run rally in the first game.

Spencer Starnes and Kody Belcher each got on for the third time today in the fifth, but still nothing for the Panthers.

Lakeside was shut out for the second time all season in the opener. Marist out-hit the hosts 10-6. Geist, who is going on the play at Florida State, struck out nine for the win.

In Game 2 and after a weather delay, Clayton Miller belted a grand slam for the Panthers, who led 4-3. Marist scored its three runs, mostly thanks to a pair of Lakeside errors. ... But then, Marist's Anthony Sherlag hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the third, and Marist never trailed again.

Lakeside has started the sixth inning with three consecutive singles and needed a huge inning. Lakeside then hit two sac flies, barely missing  a three-run HR. Black added an RBi single, but that's it. That made it 11-7 Marist.

In the seventh, Lakeside had two on with two out, but couldn't bring the tying run to the plate.

Lakeside was out-hit 13-11 in the second game.
