The United Way of the CSRA is helping more people to save on their prescriptions through text messages.
From their cell phone, consumers can text the word “family” to 700700 to save up to 75 percent on the cost of their prescription medicine. They will get a free FamilyWize prescription discount card sent to their cell phone by text. When they show the text to their pharmacist, the pharmacy will automatically apply the discount to the cost of the medicine.
The United Way provides free FamilyWize prescription discount cards for everyone in the Augusta area, said LaVerne Gold, president and CEO of United Way of the CSRA. One out of four local people have trouble buying their medicine, she said.
Since the program’s start in 2009, the United Way of the CSRA and FamilyWize have saved local people over $866,438 in prescription drug costs. The cards have been used over 31,487 times throughout nine local counties, according to a release.
