On April 22, Starbucks invites patrons to bring in a reusable mug or tumbler and get a free brewed coffee or tea. Customers can choose their own brew, hot or iced. The offer is valid at participating stores nationwide.
Starbucks wants to encourage and reward those who use tumblers or travel mugs in their daily routines because they are helping to reduce the chain's environmental impact.
For patrons that don't have a tumbler or travel mug, they will be available for 20 percent off on Earth Day, April 22. Also, any time patrons bring in their own tumbler or travel mug to a participating Starbucks, they get 10 cents off their drink every day.
For those who can't bring in a mug and don't want to buy a new one, Starbucks reports the customer can request their coffee or tea in one of Starbucks' "for-here" cups and the chain will pick up the tab.
In 2010, Starbucks patrons brought their own tumblers into the coffee chain's stores more than 32 million times, keeping nearly 1.45 million pounds of paper out of landfills, according to Starbucks' Web site.
