Here’s a rule of thumb: Make sure you always examine your receipt. Not only should you double check that you’re not being overcharged, but there might also be savings buried in the text.
Tip of the day:
J.C. Penney gives a 15 percent discount off your next purchase if you complete a survey on your shopping experience. The store advertises the savings on the front of your receipt below your total and also on the back in large red numbers.
On your receipt, you will find an access code that is valid for 7 days. If you go online to www.jcpsurvey.com, you will be prompted to input your access number and complete the survey. At the end of the survey, a 15 percent off coupon appears on the screen. Print the discount coupon and redeem it at the store for your savings.
Only one survey per household may be completed in any 30-day period.
Also, Kroger offers discounts on the back of its store receipts. For instance, a receipt from my recent Kroger purchases had several coupons available for an oil change at Tire Kingdom for $15.99.
Do you know of another retail store that offers a similar discount program? Please write in to tell your fellow shoppers how to share in the savings.
