Go behind the scenes at Winter Jam

Twenty minutes before Winter Jam artists lit up the James Brown Arena last year, a few dozen youth pastors huddled together back stage. They were joined by a few famous faces, including tobyMac, Brandon Heath and Eddie Carswell of NewSong.

It's an annual tradition for Winter Jam, which stops in Augusta Thursday and Columbia Feb. 19. Youth leaders this year are again invited to step backstage and pray before the show. The time and location will be announced from the stage about a half hour before the 7 p.m. show begins. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Those of us who aren't youth pastors still have an opportunity to step up their access. The great thing about Winter Jam is that the show - regardless of the number of artists, size of venue, or whatever - costs $10. At the door. With no tickets required. That relieves a lot of hassle for youth group workers who already have their hands full and are never quite sure how many kids will show to an event they've signed up for. The flip side, however, is that Winter Jam is first come, first served. Get there too late and you might find yourself shut of the show.

So for the first time this year, Winter Jam is offering a $50 VIP pass in addition to the $10 ticket. It reserves a seat in a special section and includes a T-shirt. What do you think? Is it worth it?
