"Homegoing" service ends

The Rev. Larry Fryer has given the benediction at James Brown's four-hour "homegoing celebration" this afternoon, as the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson deliver parting words.

The gold casket carrying Mr. Brown's body is being closed as the family is now leaving for a private burial at Mr. Brown's Beech Island, S.C. home.

Mr. James Brown: The Sole

Mr. James Brown: The Sole Soul Man Was The Lord’s Christmas Gift to the World

A tribute to Mr. James Brown by Greg Peterson, co-organizer of original James Brown Appreciation Day in 1986 with Terence Dicks in Augusta, GA.

Calming angered souls during riots, hopeful words that moved the soul, and that funky music born deep within his soul - Mr. Brown is the Sole Man of Soul.

Christmas With James Brown: From our tears on Christmas day to our fears every day, James Brown’s message is live for today and don’t worry about yesterday.

Please, Please, Please: Shining shoes for a penny, James Brown’s shining soul always did plenty.
Poverty, prison, nor pity - prevented pompadour potential or perfect promenade plans.

Living in America: An American patriot at heart, but traveling the globe, James Brown’s hometown was the world’s to behold..
Born in Barnwell, bread in Augusta, and in Beach Island Mr. Brown laid his head, but the soul man was at home in every town where his band went to bed..

It’s a Man’s World: Yes, but women and children are James Brown’s universe - without whom he could not pen a verse.
His mother, his aunt, his many children and teacher Laura Garvin are among those whom he yearned - the Famous Flames of his heart.
Those are the loved ones he cherished and from whom he learned - his soul burned for each one when they were apart.

Papa's Got a Brand New Bag: From a child dancing so he could eat, to a Godfather quick on his feet.
James Brown’s career started new each sunrise - a ray of hope so bright, and so wise.
From shining shoes to a shining star for the ages - Taxed and jailed, his spirit always rose - escaping all cages.
Papa Brown's bag was all about hope - remember this when you struggle to cope.

James Brown’s Funky Christmas: The spirit of James Brown will forever live - glowing brightest on Christmas morning.
The soul of James Brown will forever give - loving thy neighbor rather than mourning.

I Feel Good: James Brown’s goodness will live in us all, his life an example of resilience should any of us fall.
Always get on the good foot when facing strife - live every day like it’s the last of your life.
For those principles James Brown lived and got down - even in death “I feel good,” said Mr. James Brown.

Thanks for the unforgettable

Thanks for the unforgettable and showstopping time back on September 24, 1988 Mr. Brown. It was my first and only encounter with you. I was standing near the intersection of Buena Vista and Atomic Rd. at the Big H Food Store the day North Augusta Public Safety Officer Lieutenant Ronnie Delaughter pulled you over while you were high as a kite on PCP and packing a shotgun. You then attempted to shift your Jeep pick-up truck in reverse and made a valiant effort to mow down the rest of North Augusta's finest. Too bad they proceeded to shoot out your tires out and you had to ride on rims to try to outrun the posse. Yes, they got their man and put you away for a while. Then a few years later BEHOLD! You were PARDONED!...Only the Godfather of Soul can put on a show for the Board of Parole...Priceless!

BLawton, I respect your

BLawton, I respect your right to 'move on', but I hardly believe the officers lives he endangered that day feel the same, nor their families. I thank God that your child, mother, or brother was not on the road while 'Dr. Brown' went on his little joy ride. That would be a different story, wouldn’t it? Although I believe everyone deserves forgiveness, excuse me if I do not glorify him.
