The latest 'Face'

North Augusta golfer Matt NeSmith, who is featured in Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd" section in the current issue, isn't the first area golfer to so honored.

NeSmith, who is headed to the South Carolina golf team this fall, joins Charles Howell and John Engler on the "Faces" list.

Howell was featured on Dec. 2, 1996 when he was a senior at Westminster. Engler, a former Richmond Academy golfer, was singled out in early 1999 when he was playing golf for Clemson.

Apparently, there isn't a "Faces in the Crowd" jinx. Famously, there appears to be a cover jinx, the latest being the woes of Josh Hamilton since he was the cover boy.

Since appearing in the "Faces" section earlier this week, NeSmith went on to win the American Junior Golf Association's Rolex Tournament of Champions by four shots.
